– Miranda, your debut book This Thing Called Love will be released on May 1. Would you tell us more about it?
– Sure, Ognian, and thanks for asking me to be on your blog!
This Thing Called Love is a love story first and foremost. Love stories are about the experience of being human, how we come to fall in love and how love often helps us to heal and overcome various heartaches and flaws and become the best versions of ourselves. Romances embrace the bonds of family and friendships and celebrate what is best in life.
My book is about two people thrown back together after ten years because of a tragedy who come to know each other again. Olivia, a workaholic self-help editor from New York City, is called home to her small town to take guardianship of her baby niece and finds she must manage the baby, her career, and also deal with the baby’s sexy but troublesome uncle, her old, unforgettable love.

CONTRIBUTING TO THE NY TIMES

The name of The New York Times newspaper resounds with great respect in my Eastern European country Bulgaria. The edition is known around the world as one of the top sources of information and interesting articles.

A month ago, Sam Broden, the European sports correspondent of The NY Times, approached me via e-mail. He wanted to make an article about the great Bulgarian boxer Serafim Todorov. The reason is upcoming May 2 bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The noise around the super-fight is enormous, so every reporter in USA is looking for some interesting angle.

JTEllisonIMG_4876fullcolor

– J.T., What Lies Behind will be released in May? What the readers will find in the next part of Dr. Samantha Owens’s adventures?
– That’s correct, May 26. This is the fourth Samantha Owens novel, and her first official case as an FBI consultant. What looks like a murder/suicide is quickly revealed to be a case of bioterror, and Samantha and Washington D.C. homicide detective Darren Fletcher must stop an imminent attack on the US. Xander Whitfield, Samatha’s boyfriend, is also involved, providing close protection to a billionaire who might be involved in the attack. It was – is – a very topical novel, as it deals with an enhanced hemorrhagic fever. And, of course, the Ebola crisis exploded just as I was finishing writing the book.

Sustaincoverhighres

– Tijan, what is your new book Sustain about?
Sustain is about a group of friends who grew up, somewhat on the wrong side of the tracks, and became a tight family even if half of them don’t like each other. They’re there for each other, no matter what, but a rift occurs. Brielle and Luke, who were best friends, something goes wrong and their best friendship is torn apart. Brielle is forced to do something she thinks Luke will never forgive her for, so she turns to Elijah. Those two date for the next three years, as she’s pulled away from the other half of their group and avoids Luke at all costs until a morning when SWAT raids Elijah’s home. They’re out of high school. None of them have pursued a college degree. They all have jobs and are trying to make ends meet, but after the police take Brielle to the police station for questioning, she’s had enough and she ends things with Elijah. A phone call happens. She needs a ride and instead of her twin brother, guess who shows up. Luke. This is where the book begins. Brielle joins their old band again. She remembers how much she loved drumming and Luke, most of all—Luke. They circle around each other. Luke’s very cautious with her. He got burned. He doesn’t want to get burned again. Readers can’t get a ‘read’ on how Luke feels for her, until Bri breaks down and confesses the truth. Bam. Luke’s mad. She avoided him for three years because of her secret and he says some harsh things, then goes off with the band (sans Brielle) and changes the name to Sustain. A year and a half later, Luke’s back after the band hit global stardom and the readers now get inside Luke’s head. The second part of the book is in Luke’s point of view and they realize how torn he really was and how much he really loves Brielle. Going home after two tours, is anything but easy. There’s another plotline in the book concerning Brielle’s cousin, Emerson. He’s part of the band. He does not like Brielle at all and he’s best friends with Elijah, Brielle’s ex. Plus, Emerson’s got a problem with drugs and suffice to say, Emerson puts them all in a position where they have to come together in order to save his rear-end and once that happens, they’re back to the beginning. They’re a family. They may not like each other, but they’re there for each other no matter what.

Cruel World is a post-apocalyptic horror novel surrounding a character named Quinn Kelly, who was born with a facial disfigurement called fibrous dysplasia. His father happens to be an A-list movie star who couldn’t stand the media and general public criticizing his son based on his appearance, so he left the limelight and hid them both away. Skip forward twenty years and Quinn is ready to leave the only home he’s ever known, but on the eve of his departure a terrible virus sweeps across the nation, killing most, but changing others. The rest of the novel follows him across the country in pursuit of safety in a world filled with chaos and horror.
