JOHN GAVER: THE INCOME TAX HAS TURNED THE IRS INTO A BEHEMOTH

John Gaver is one of the best tax specialists in USA. He is a public speaker, a special guest at radio and TV shows and the author of the book The Rich Don’t Pay Tax!… Or Do They? I was astonished by the level of info and professional insights John gave in his interview for the blog. So take your seat and enjoy!

– What is your last book The Rich Don’t Pay Tax!… Or Do They? about?
– This book begins by using actual IRS Collections Data (including URLs to download that data from the IRS website), to prove beyond any shadow of a doubt, which income groups actually pay what amount of the federal income tax load. Having established the undeniable existence of a huge disparity in tax collection across income groups, the book then leads the reader down a statistical and logical path, clearly demonstrating that this disparity in taxation is causing a serious, but almost un-noticed threat to our economy. This disparity is causing an alarming loss of tax revenue, investment income, and jobs in the USA. But not being one to predict gloom and doom, without also providing a workable solution, the author devotes the third section of the book, to laying out a solution that easily and fairly addresses the problems discussed earlier in the book.
Unlike most books on the subject of taxes or the economy, that can be understood only by policy wonks and PhD economists, “The Rich Don’t Pay Tax! …Or Do They?” doesn’t rely on vague economic theories or abstract terminology. Instead, it leads the reader, in plain english, through each step in the logical and statistical evidence, to a conclusion that becomes clear, once that evidence is uncovered and tied together.

– How you decide to write the story?
– I was born in the USA. Better yet, I had the enormous good fortune to be born in Texas. That means that I have two great reasons for wanting to stay right where I am. This leads to my reason for writing “The Rich Don’t Pay Tax! …Or Do They?”
You see, I must admit that the initial catalyst – the realization of fact that brought inspiration – for writing this book, was to a small degree, based on selfishness. Certainly, that selfishness was only a small part of my motivation. But that was the catalyst. It’s what started me thinking about the issues that would eventually become the subject of the book. The selfishness of which I speak, was based on my desire to spend the rest of my life living in the land of my birth.
I’ve traveled extensively overseas and even lived offshore for a time. In each case, I was glad to return to the USA. International travel is fun and I enjoy immersing myself in other cultures… for a while. But upon each return home, I was more convinced that Texas was where I really wanted to be. So imagine my distress when I realized that events were unfolding that might some day force me to permanently leave my beloved Texas and the USA.
In speaking with U.S. expatriates that I met in my travels abroad, I became aware that our most prolific taxpayers, investors, and job creators are leaving the USA at unprecedented rates and that this exodus is increasing geometrically. My concern was that when the people who pay the lion’s share of taxes leave, their portion of the tax load will fall to those of us who remain behind. From the moment that I first became aware of this issue, it appeared quite problematic. But the more research I did, the more I realized how bad the situation had already become and that nobody else was even talking about it. I found a solution. But few people were talking about it, either. I knew then that I had to write a book about this looming threat.
It was no longer about my own self interest. Although I prefer to remain in Texas and the USA, I know from experience that I can be quite comfortable in any of a number of nations. Furthermore, being aware of this threat to my retirement lifestyle, I have long since established an exit strategy, should it come to that. This book is for those who are not prepared to take such a drastic step – those who will see their taxes double, triple, or even worse, should the current trend continue.
– What was the biggest challenge during the write up process?
– Research, research, and let us not forget, research.
It appears almost as though the government doesn’t want the public knowing some of the information that I’ve uncovered. In fact, when you see some of that data, you’ll see why they might want to keep the voting public blind to some of these facts. They avoid having to respond to Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) requests, by publishing the data on the internet. But they put that data in places where even many of the most seasoned researchers can’t find it and when you ask where it is, they only give you a starting place and learn that the files aren’t indexed. This means that you have to download and open hundreds of files, to find the one that’s important.
Fortunately, I spent a number of years after graduating from college, running IT departments and in that time, I learned several programing languages. So I put that knowledge to good use, by writing a program that would run in the background on my Mac, searching the IRS website for those files. This dramatically reduced the number of suspect files that I had to personally open. Even so, it was still a lot of work.
– How much time you need to finish the story and to publish it?
– The research took almost a year. But from the moment I wrote the first word, to the day it went on sale was about three months.
– Tell us more about your other writing works?
– Many years ago, when I was in college, I spent my spare time – what little I had – writing science fiction short stories and actually managed to get a few published. Even then, I realized that this was probably more related to the sheer number of my submissions, than the quality of my work. But it was fun to see my work in print. Eventually however, I began to concentrate more on girls, surfing, fast motorcycles, and faster cars, and in my spare time, studying. Unfortunately this left no time for writing.
Fast-forward 45 years, to the time when I discovered the Kindle Desktop Publishing platform. By this time, I had been retired from the business world for some time (I left my last 9 to 5 job at age 50). So I decided to take up writing again. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to jump back into science fiction right away, so I decided to write a non-fiction book on something that I knew all about – cruise travel. I published that book on both the Kindle and Nook platforms. I followed that book with other non-fiction titles on subjects on which I was already an expert. But as is often the case with non-fiction, most of those books were time sensitive and all but one have been taken off-sale. Interestingly, the one that remains on-sale is that original book on cruise travel. It just keeps on selling and the information in it, though not entirely timeless, is not likely to go out of date for quite a few more years. It’s primarily the tips and tricks that my wife and I have developed over many years and many cruises. The nom de plume that I used for that book was Reginald and Vivian Carpenter, since those names tend to be less common and suggest someone of our somewhat older years, whereas our own names could as easily be a twenty-something couple. The name of that book is “Cruise Secrets of Seasoned Cruisers.
Today, I’m working on a book wherein I am examining a wide variety of tax reform plans that have been floating around Washington DC for some time. In it, I use a goals-based analysis as a measure. I’m trying to get it out before election day, but research is taking longer than I had hoped. However, a late October release date is not out of the question.
When I reach a mental block, instead of taking my mental blocks out to play with them, I switch gears and do a little work on a science fiction book that has been percolating around in my head for some time. I’m quite pleased with where it seems to be headed. The few close friends and relatives who have read the short story version have all been hugely impressed with the ending. I just hope that I can keep that impact in the longer version.
– Who are you?
Insane genius. Well,… at least half that.
My degree says that I’m an electronic engineer, but I’ve never held a job that required that training. I’ve run several large IT departments, owned several of my own businesses, including a print shop, an IT consulting business, and an import/export business. Although I basically retired at 50, I still occasionally take on a title abstracting job, if the money is right and I can work mostly from home. By the way, I’m writing a book on title abstracting, too. But that book is low on the importance scale, behind the tax book and science fiction book. Today, most of my time is spent either writing or trading in natural resource products, from crude oil, to diesel fuel, to scrap metal, to fine copper powder and more. I also just started importing wine and olive oil. Among those things, writing takes up the most time.
– What are your writing habits?
– Since I’m mostly retired, I write when I feel like it, which could be any time of the day or night. I’m most productive at night, after the phone stops ringing. Sometimes, I write only a couple of hours a day. But at other times, I have written non-stop for as much as 36 hours. It just depends on how productive I am at the time and when writer’s block sets in. In general, I try to put 5 or 6 hours a day into writing.
My primary writing tool is Scrivener.
– Are you satisfied by the sales of the book and do you plan another one?
– I’m a marketer at heart. So until every U.S. family owns a copy of my book, I’ll never be “satisfied” with my book sales. On the other hand, I’m far from being disappointed with my book sales. But I’m always on the lookout for ways to improve sales.
– What are you doing to promote by the best possible way your book?
– Much of my sales come from personal appearances and radio guest spots. I also promote the book through articles on my blog and as a journalist on Examiner.com. Each such article is then promoted on Twitter, Google+, StumbleUpon, etc. On top of that, there are several issue organizations and PACs that promote the book, because it explains the principles of economics in a way that even the most callow of devotees to causes that run contrary to their own can easily understand. I have also been a compensated guest at a booth at a major political convention, where I sold and signed books, with a portion of sales going to the sponsoring organization.
– How you ended being a sci-fi books lover?
– I have been reading science fiction since at least my high school days, when I read every book written by E.E. “Doc” Smith. Then I devoured the early Heinlein books, including one of my favorites, “Sixth Column” (renamed for a time to “The Day after Tomorrow”). In my late teens and early twenties I wrote a number (lots) of sci-fi short stories and actually managed to get a few published. I stopped writing sci-fi short stories in my twenties, due to changing priorities. Besides college studies and later work, I had to split my remaining time between girls, reading, girls, writing, girls, fast cars, girls, fast motorcycles, girls, hang gliding, and, oh yes, girls. I wasn’t about to give up girls, reading, speed, or hang gliding. Although I had managed to get a few short stories published, I had no reason, at the time, to expect that my writing would ever be more than a barely profitable pass-time, unless I was willing do devote large blocks of time to it. So my science fiction writing got shelved for more than 40 years. But now that I’m semi-retired and have the only girl I’ll ever need, I have the large blocks of time that I need to devote to my writing. So my first full length science fiction novel is now in process and will follow my next non-fiction book, on which I’m currently working.
– You traveled all around the world. Please rate the Top 3 places that you have been?
– Panama: They have moderate temperatures year-around, the best coffee in the world, fabulous and inexpensive medical care (free to tourists), fresh tropical fruits that are to die for, and they love Americans. What’s not to like? The cost of living is low and the country is has the fastest growing major economy in the world. It’s a great place to visit, invest, or retire.
Hong Kong: It’s capitalism on steroids. The energy is palpable. Every resident of the city either owns a business of his own or knows, in his heart, that he is going to own a business before long and is working toward that goal at all times. They are the hardest working people in the world and their excitement about what they do is contagious. It’s also very safe in all but a few areas – probably safer than most U.S. cites of more than a couple of million population.
Belize: Scuba diving! More than 100 identified dive sites, including the Blue Hole and the Queen’s Fingers. Belize is also home to one of the few decompression chambers in the Caribbean-Atlantic area. I’ve never had to use one, but it’s nice to know that it’s there. The country is english-speaking, having been British Honduras until 1981, when they got their independence from Great Britain. They love Americans. It’s a developing country with lots of opportunity. Their healthcare leaves something to be desired, but just across the Mexican border, in Chetumal, they have great healthcare and shopping.
It also seems unfair to leave out Dufftown, Scotland, in the heart of Speyside, which is one of the most beautiful places in the world and home to more than a dozen of the worlds best whiskies. There’s also Capri, Italy, which is home to the Blue Grotto and tons of great scenery. Florence, Italy has not only the art, but the best chocolate gelato in the world. Then there’s Monaco, which is… well… Monaco. That word says it all – yachts, grand prix, casino and on and on.
– Your opinion on current USA tax situation? What will be good to be improved?
– The income tax has turned the IRS into a behemoth that is completely out of control. As a result, more than 3,000 Americans, with a net worth of more than two million dollars, formally renounced their U.S. citizenship last year. What started out as a very low and essentially flat rate tax that only taxed about 500 people in the entire nation, now reaches into the pockets of even the poorest Americans, via the corporate income tax. It’s not just Democrats or Republicans. The leaders of both parties have used the IRS to spy on the economic affairs of their opponents. Both parties use the tax code to favor their big donors, at the expense of everyone else. Changing which party is in control only changes which big donors get the biggest tax breaks and those tax breaks always come at the expense of those who cannot afford to hire lobbyists. Now that Congress has tasted the power that the income tax gives them, even a flat income tax, with no deductions would not stay flat for long and new deductions would start to appear with the next session of Congress. All this makes it clear that taxing income is not the answer.
By contrast, a properly configured sales tax would resolve all of the problems with the current tax code. But configuring such a tax would seem to be a daunting task. Fortunately, that work has already been done for us. Back in 1995, three Houston businessmen hired economists, pollsters, finance geeks and other experts, and gave them a simple, but broad objective – design either a fix or a replacement for the current tax system and provide justification. What they came up with eliminates the IRS, is completely transparent, reverses the tremendous capital flight that is now taking place, reverses the offshoring of jobs, completely un-taxes those living in poverty, and encourages savings and investment. It’s called The FairTax and is currently in the Ways and Means Committee as H.R. 25. It has 85 sponsors and co-sponsors in both houses. The only thing keeping it from becoming law is that the leadership of both parties are blocking it, since they realize that if the FairTax becomes law, more than 80% of the lobbyists who constantly fawn all over them will suddenly be out of business and then they will actually have to listen to their constituents. What a frightening thought it must be to them – members of Congress actually having to listen to their constituents.

PAMELA NICOLE: MY GOAL IS TO REACH PEOPLE AND TO CHANGE THEIR LIVES

Pamela Nicole is the next young writer, who will be our guest. Her first published book in Amazon is 18-page essay Fit in or Fit out: That is the question. Let me introduce to you Pamela Nicole:

author_pic

– Pamela, What is your last book Fit in or Fit out: That is the question about?
– The essay is about how, in the highschool years, most people lose themselves. I’d like to think we’re smarter than that. But we aren’t, so at least, we should be aware of what’s happening. Essentially, I talk about three things there: Self-Esteem, Labels, and The Lost of Identity. Those are the things I noticed the most around me when I was writing the work. More than informative, I think it’s a call to action for everyone, both teenagers, and adults.
high_school.jpg.CROP.rectangle3-large
– How you decide to write the story?
– Since this one is my first work of non fiction, it had a different approach than the one I’m used to. But I had to do it. It was a project for school. During that time, I was a bit resentful to my friends, because some, were letting the lure of popularity, get to their heads. I just didn’t get it. I felt weird. I did understand the attractive, but… I knew if I tried, it’d be ridiculous. So, I had all these words in my head. All those things I wanted to yell and make them understand they were awesome just the way they were.
Then, the opportunity presented, and I thought, “Yeah, why not? I’m already working on a novel, but this might be fun too.” I told my teacher the topic I’d chosen and he gave me that look of “As long as it isn’t about Global Warming.” That’s how this essay was born.
– What was the biggest challenge during the write up process?
– I think that mainly, it was organizing all what I wanted to say. Like I said before, it was for school, so I had to follow certain guidelines. It had to have that Outline page. So, I was forced from the beginning to plan what I was going to write. I consider myself a pantser, so you can guess it wasn’t easy. I had to cram everything in my head into a simplified structure of three main arguments and two supporting ones for each. That was all.
– Tell us something more about your main character? Is it close to someone from your real life?
– How much time you need to finish the story and to publish it?
– For this one, it took like six months from finishing, to publishing it. The first version of it took me two weeks, but then, when I decided I’d release it into the world, I added some things, and edited others.
– What about your previous book Foul Fairness?
– Oh, that one. Yikes. Foul Fairness is a novel, originally titled ‘Opal’. It was about a girl, Sam, whose sister, had committed a crime a long, long time ago. Because of that, her life was now in danger. Sam and her friends’ task was to dig into the past and prove Sam’s sister’s innocence.
I started writing the first draft in 2009, and finished it 2012. Currently, it’s retreated to a corner of my desk, waiting patiently until I recycle its ideas. It does have an interesting plotline, but I felt the characters just weren’t engaging enough. I don’t think Foul Fairness will be on sale again, but you will find the same plot line (Really excited about it), in the novel I’m working on now, called ‘Phoenix’, which is the prequel of ‘Wonderland in Flames’.
– Who are you?
– I’m a full time roleplayer. I cannot stop replying even for a day. I’m an International Business student, a daughter, a sister and a friend. My most important goal is to through what I write, be it non fiction or my beloved genre YA, reach people and that change their lives for the better – even if it’s just a little bit – like books from other authors have done for me.
– What are your writing habits?
– I try to write everyday. Seriously, I try. But I must admit I’m lacking two things: A solid schedule, and the will to let go of the internet. I write whenever I have the time, and the will to. A headache usually warns me when if I write, I’ll just spew a lot of nonsense. I also write in notebooks, since I can’t have the computer all the time. Notebooks help me get ideas, and just keep me creative. Then, when I get to the computer, I know more or less what I’m expecting. I listen to music very rarely while writing; only when it’s something very action-packed, or very sad, or very happy. Mostly, I listen to music to inspire myself, when I’m in the car, shopping or eating. It helps me visualize scenes.
– Are you satisfied by the sales of the book and do you plan another one?
– Well, I have to say I’m happy anyone at all is reading it. I’m technically a newbie, so I didn’t expect a super high traffic and readers falling over themselves to buy the book. So, I am happy. It means it’s not only me (or my family) that are interested in this topic. And as for another one… I don’t think I’ll be writing another essay soon. But I am planning on finishing a memoir next year, and also my fiction series: Wonderland in Flames.
– What are you doing to promote by the best possible way your book?
– Mostly, using Twitter, and connecting with other writers. It’s a fun way to network, and market at the same time. I also have recently created a blog. And, I plan on popping out on other blogs as well. 🙂 I’m considering Fit In or Fit Out as my little guinea pig. I’m experimenting with what works and what doesn’t when it comes to promoting a product. Hopefully, I’ll learn from this and start getting familiarized with the ways of the publishing industry.
– Which are the Top 3 most interesting things to see in Ecuador?
– Oh, my small, lovely corner of the world. For anyone who is planning to visit, I’d point them directly to the Galapagos. Those are a must see, definitely. Second, probably it’d be the city of Cuenca. There are a lot of hand-made products there and the people is really warm and happy to receive tourists. And lastly, I’d say the beaches. I’d recommend, Salinas, Atacames, and if you like to party, Montañita. Of course, those are where the hotels and restaurants are, but there are plenty of deserted ones where you own the place.
– You are young author, what are the things that you need to learn in order to improve as an writer?
– I need to learn to ignore distractions. I know I’d be more productive and would have finished at least two novels by now if I let the tv series and the internet alone for a while.
– If you may ask yourself one question in the interview what it will be? (Don’t forget to answer)
– Huh, that’d be: Have you ever considered giving up or think it may happen in the future?
And the answer is yes, and no. I’ve considered closing the book file, closing the windows, and then shutting off the computer to go watch TV or something. But, I can’t. I just can’t picture myself doing anything else. If I’m not successful now, well, shoot! But, I certainly won’t get anywhere if I quit now. I mean, I want to see my stubborn, opinionated Blaze in the big screen someday. I want to hear someone say. “Yeah, who cares about what the rest thinks? I’m gonna be myself, screw the rest.” *coughs* Hey, one can dream. I know this is the ultimate writer’s dream. But, it’s true. It gives me something to hold on to. So I’ll keep trying. I’ll be here, learning.

BAIBIN NIGHTHAWK: READERS ARE WARY WHEN UNKNOWN AUTHOR PUBLISHES THEIR FIRST BOOK

Baibin Nighthawk is just like me, a new author, who published his first novel. It was a common effort with another writer Dominick Fencer. Their novel Black Hawk Day Rewind reminds me with its title to the of one of my favorite movies Black Hawk Down. So I was very curious to know more about the book!

bai

– What is your book Black Hawk Day Rewind about?
Black Hawk Day Rewind is a techno spy thriller, the first episode of a trilogy.
– How did you decide to write the story?
– We are both fans of the spy-fi and thriller genres and, being business consultants, we spend many hours travelling from one client to another, and during these trips we began creating many characters and plots. I was already a writer, so one day we decided to write a spy thriller.
BLACK_HAWK_DAY_REWIND_-_2500
– You teamed up with Dominick Fencer to co-write the story. How did that work out?
– We complement each other quite well both as business partners and writers. I have a broad knowledge of history and Dominick has a strong science background.
– What was the biggest challenge during the write up process?
– We spend many, many hours gathering information because our stories are inspired by contemporary events.
– Tell us something more about your main character? Is it close to someone from your real life?
– Mark Savannah is the lead character who has outgrown his uses as a special agent. Mark lost his dad in this field of work and began to wrestle with his demons, his need for answers and revenge. He is a spy, lover and psychiatrist…an interesting fictional character who tries to confront his past and at the same time find happiness in life. So, no, he isn’t really close to any one person.
– How much time you need to finish the story and to publish it?
– About 12 months.
– You have won several poetry awards. Tell us more about your experience in the genre?
– Poetry is a literary genre not widely read or appreciated. Poetry depicts inner landscapes; simply you do not create it yourself, a poem comes like a flooded river and has to be short otherwise it bores even me. Unlike novels or short stories, I do not plan a poem and sometimes I do not perceive it clearly for months.
– Who are you?
– I am a writer, a Business Consultant, and a member of Art of Ink in America Society. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Certificate in Art (Teaching).
– What are your writing habits?
– I write at night in my studio.
– Are you satisfied by the sales of the book and do you plan another one?
– Readers are generally wary when an unknown author publishes their first book, and does not have a popular publisher behind that drives them, and this is understandable. The market offering is wide, there are many literary genres and many people attempt to act as an author without preparation, proposing works poorly written to the market. In our case, we have started to see the first good results; and since our editor likes the second episode of the trilogy, we are confident that the readers will love it, too. In fact, in addition to the last episode of the trilogy, we have a sci-fi project which we’re already working on.
– What are you doing to promote your book in the best way?
– Social Networks are very important for us. We are active on social media networks, forums, platforms such as GoodReads and Wattpad.
– How did you start to practice calligraphy and what kind of emotion does this demanding art give you?
– I started 12 years ago. Calligraphy was the first art of the literati and has been recognized as an art since the Eastern Han epoch (25-220). Calligraphy, which is monochrome painting, using black ink and various dilutions of water, transfers vital energy on to paper, the qi of what I intend to represent and write and also my inner energy, so the emotions of the moment are transferred onto the sheet in the characters and in the spaces, and if you make a mistake you can not correct the work. An emotion from a fleeting moment in time.
– What is the story of your pen name and what is your real one?
– My co-author and I have a passion for flying and we chose to use the names of two fighter aircraft. The pen name of Dominick, ‘Fencer’, is the nickname of a supersonic aircraft (the Sukhoi Su-24). Nighthawk is the name of a twin-engine stealth aircraft. I am a Swiss citizen, but we do not want to use our real names for reasons of confidentiality; we prefer to keep our passion for writing and our every day working lives separate.

MADI PREDA: THE FIRST PERSON WHO SHOULD PROMOTE A BOOK IS THE WRITER

Madi Preda is a very special author. All the reviews of project “How To Promote and Market Your Book – Publicists Tips & Tricks” are very positive. She dedicated her time to help authors. This is why Madi is so interesting to all of us – indie authors.
madi

– What is your book about?
– First of all I want to thank you for having me as a guest on your blog today. As the title sais “How To Promote and Market Your Book – Publicists Tips & Tricks” is a book about book marketing, based on my experience as a publicist and its meant to be a help for every writer. The book contains general notions about book marketing, step by step ideas on how to build an author brand. Three case studies for promotion on different genres and lots of resources and useful contacts.
book
– How you decide to write this kind of book?
– I have met many authors complaining that their publisher don’t do much publicity for their books and I think here is a bit of misunderstanding. The first person who should promote a book is the writer because he knows best what the message of his story is and he is the most qualified person to share this message with the audience. How readers perceive a book has an important role when it comes to brand yourself as a writer, to promote a book efficiently and the ability to do this has become essential. No matter how talented an author is – if the readers don’t know about a book, how will they know to buy it or if it is a good one or not?
How To Promote and Market Your Book by Madi Preda is an easy to read and understandable guide designed to help every author to chart their own path and stand up and say to the world “Here is my book” and communicate the message from between the covers in an original way that call to action and make their book a must read.
Writing a book without promoting it is like waving to someone in a dark room. You know what have you done but nobody else do.
– What was the biggest challenge during the write up process?
– The biggest challenge for me it was not to write in my language, which is Romanian and always there was the fear that I will make mistakes and readers will penalize me for that. I was lucky enough to meet Nancy King – the author of Changing Spaces and she did the editing for me. So that problem was solved.
Another challenge it was my determination to do everything on my own, and that was a big one. I designed the cover and I had to find out how to format an e-book. Many new things for me and I had to study a bit in order to complete this project.
– How much time you need to finish the story and to publish it?
– It wasn’t such a long time. Many materials such as lists of bloggers and other resources were part of my daily activity as a marketer. Then there was a pre order campaign for about a month and finally the book was published on 1st of July. All together about three months I think.
– Who are you?
– This is a tough one. You know, I can do PR for other people quite easy but I find difficult to talk about me. So,lets start with…I am Romanian and I am living now in Greece. I was dreaming to become a doctor and I ended up by being an economist. Because I couldn’t practice that here in Greece and because I didn’t manage to learn the language, I was trying hard to find something to do online using English language. I like reading and when my husband published his first two novels, “Herodotus The Gnome of Sofia” and “Judas Goat The Kennet Narrow Boat Mystery” I helped him a bit by designing some electronic newsletters and spread the word about his novels. After that the idea grew and here I am doing promotion and public relations for authors.
About my human being, I have to say that I always liked to see only the good side in people and in everything which happens to me.
– Do you have some kind of system or writing procedure when you wrote the book?
– Not really, it is my first book and I like to say that I am unique, not necessary as a plus. Everything it was about back and forwards, cutting some pieces off, developing some others, cover design before finishing the book.
– Are you satisfied by the sales of the book and do you plan another one?
– I think it is a bit early to discuss the book sales, and it is not that the point. More important for me is the engagement and the response for my targeted audience; with that yes, definitely I am satisfied. The book it has a few reviews on GoodReads, and lucky me all of them are five stars.
Also I am satisfied with the number of downloads during the pre order campaign and I have to say its worth the effort to set it up and this is an advice for every single author. If they do pre orders and they promote the pre-order campaign efficiently they will be pleased with the results.
– What are you doing to promote the promotion book?
– You made me smile with this question. You know what is amazing, I found myself in the position of others now and sometimes I am a bit shy to say, hey here is my book. Funny enough I think I do less for my book than I have done for others.

*”Think outside the box” and find new and original ideas

– What is the rate of importance between being a good author and good promoter in order the book to be well discovered by the readers?
– I don’t like to talk about numbers and statistics, what I can say is that being a good writer is not enough.
– You are born in the Balkan peninsula, how would you describe with three phrases this part of the earth?
– In that part of the world, generally speaking, people are very sensitive and caring people with an open and sincere display of emotions. Abroad this is not always so… and the humanity has been polluted by materialism and wrong values. Probably being away makes me to idealize a bit and to remember only the good things.

INDIA WAS ONE: A JOURNEY BY ANONYMOUS AUTHOR

“India was One” was described with the following comment: “As a love story it breaks your heart to read of a married couple separated by country and culture”. Sounds familiar? Well, here we would like to introduce the author of the book. He preferred to stay anonymous and used just his nickname “An Indian”.

cover_indian
– What is your book about?
– It’s a ‘what-if’ book. What if India was further divided into two countries? Here is a brief synopsis: …Suddenly, he saw something shiny at the bottom of the abyss. He squinted his eyes to see what it was. He ran back to his binoculars and turned them to see what it was. Sharp barbed wires that separated the two mountains came into focus. He had come as far as he could in his country. But she was standing in another country.
He was in South India and she was in North India…
Have you ever imagined India being divided into two countries? What happens to the millions of Indians who are from South India but are now residing in North India? Kaahi & Jai were two such people who got trapped in this situation. Everything was going smoothly for them and suddenly, their world turned upside down.
How will they get together? Will India become one again?
Take an exciting journey with them from their college days in Mumbai to their life in the US and back to India when they find o- ut that India is divided.
– How you decide to write the story?
– I’ve been toying with the story in my mind for some time. I finally decided to pen it down.
– What was the biggest challenge during the write up process?
– I would not call it a challenge as I don’t consider myself a writer. I am merely the author of the book.
– Tell us something more about your main character? Is it close to someone from your real life?
– I’ve loosely based my characters of my experiences when I was growing up in India, and when I moved to the US.
– How much time you need to finish the story and to publish it?
– It took me less than a week to pour down my initial thoughts. It then took over a year to expand on them.
– Who are you?
– An Indian.
– What are your writing habits?
– As I said earlier, I’m not a writer. I am a web developer.
– Are you satisfied by the sales of the book and do you plan another one?
– Not really.
– What are you doing to promote by the best possible way your book?
– As every author knows, it’s extremely hard to market one’s book. Reviews, social-media, website, etc. are the best tools.
– Please describe the book market in India? How popular is reading in your country?
– Reading is extremely popular in India. The Indian readers are very aware of the latest happenings in the western world. All the best-sellers are immediately available in India. However, there are very few Indian authors who are famous in the west, even though they are famous in India. Those authors are only well known among Indians living abroad.
– What is the best Indian food that you may recommend to the first time visitors of Indian restaurant?
– India is too vast and diverse to have one single ‘best’ food. There is not one ‘best’ food. It doesn’t exist. That’s why, I’d highly recommend a first visitor to read my book to appreciate India’s diversity. People who have never visited India, and have read my book wrote comments like, ‘I didn’t know how diverse India is’, ‘I learned so much about the Indian culture’, etc. But the comments I am really proud of is when they say, ‘I want to visit India after reading your book’.

BOOK DELIVERY ADVENTURES

As I wrote in my previous post, my author’s copies are at home.
P1150317

I am very satisfied how the edition is looking, so thanks to Create Space, my print on demand publisher. The only problem was the delivery time. I ordered the author’s copies on 30 May and they came up on 22 July to my home country Bulgaria. The estimate delivery time was set to 18 July.

I contact Create Space’s support on 21 July with an ask where are the books. One of my test readers also wrote me that he didn’t receive the book, that i ordered for him with estimate date 16 July.

The Support team of Create Space did a great job! They send their excuses with a free pack of books with the most fastest delivery possible. So the second pack of books came to me just two days after the original one (24 July). Now I have two sets of books! My test reader Slawomir Judek also received his copies!
