– Kris, what is your debut book One Murder More about?
– It’s a political mystery, the story of a California state lobbyist, Maren Kane, who investigates the stabbing death of a beautiful young aide to the governor when a colleague of Maren’s is arrested for the crime. There is a diverse cast of Sacramento suspects and sidekicks. Clues begin on the first page and build through interwoven subplots throughout the story. I don’t want to highlight any specific elements that might break the thread for someone who reads it. I hope it’s told with humor and intellect, that was my goal.

– There is a lot going on with this story, so it’s hard to sum up without giving too much away. Skynoise is a fun time-travel adventure featuring a respected non-fiction author named Helen Weils who is forced into an unlikely partnership with Chip Sledd, a conspiracy theorist who may be completely insane. The story focuses on the mysterious disappearance of the Roanoke Island colonists, a group of settlers who vanished in 1587. This also ties in with strange noises being heard in the sky, all around the world, with no apparent earthly origin.

RACHEL ABBOTT: THE TENSION NEVER REALLY DROPS IN STRANGER CHILD

Rachel Abbott’s last novel Stranger Child was released on February 24. The quality writing of the thriller earned a lot of positive reviews averaging with 4.5 stars in Amazon. The next Land of Books guest is a member of 1 million sales club with her books. Let’s welcome Lady Abbott!

rachel

– Rachel, your last book Stranger Child was described by the critics as “The perfect thriller”. What makes the novel so perfect and complex?

– I think I would be uncomfortable with claiming that my own novel is perfect in any way – but I believe people enjoy Stranger Child because the tension never really drops. It’s also quite an emotional book, and I hope that readers really start to care about the characters – one in particular. Although my books do have a main police character, much of the story is told from the point of view of the victims, so it is possible to understand the impact on them, rather than focusing on the procedure followed in order to catch the perpetrators of the crime.
