– In 1676, an unlikely pair—a young Puritan widow and an English spy—journeys across a land where greed and treachery abound.
Prudence Cotton has recently lost her husband and is desperate to find her daughter, captured by the Nipmuk tribe during King Philip’s war. She’s convinced her daughter is alive but cannot track her into the wilderness alone. Help arrives in the form of James Bailey, an agent of the crown sent to Boston to investigate the murder of Prudence’s husband and to covertly cause a disturbance that would give the king just cause to install royal governors. After his partner is murdered, James needs help too. He strikes a deal with Prudence, and together they traverse the forbidding New England landscape looking for clues. What they confront in the wilderness—and what they discover about each other—could forever change their allegiances and alter their destinies.

NINA SCHUYLER: THE TRANSLATOR WAS INSPIRED BY DAVID REMNICK’S ARTICLE
Posted by Ognian Georgiev
“A pure, sheer pleasure”, “Wonderful story”, “Absorbing,” are just few of the opinions about Nina Schuyler’s book The Translator. The novel was published in 2013 and since then was receiving very positive feedback (av. 4.4 stars from 50 plus reviews). It’s a great pleasure to introduce you our next guest Nina Schuyler.
– Nina, What is THE TRANSLATOR about?
– When renowned translator Hanne Schubert falls down a flight of stairs, she suffers from an unusual but real condition–the loss of her native language. Speaking only Japanese, a language she learned later in life, she leaves for Japan. There, to Hanne’s shock, the Japanese novelist whose work she recently translated confronts her publicly for sabotaging his work.
Hanne sets out to find the inspiration for the author’s novel–a tortured, chimerical actor, once a master in the art of Noh theater. Through their passionate, volatile relationship, Hanne is forced to reexamine how she lived her life, including her relationship to her daughter.

RACHEL HOLLIS: SWEET GIRL IS MUCH MORE OF A LOVE STORY THAN PARTY GIRL
Posted by Ognian Georgiev
Rachel Hollis was a party organizer of VIP events in LA, and is an author for many well known entertainment magazines and internet sites. Her first book Party Girl is a real hit with average 4.5 Amazon stars from 250 reviews. The sequel Sweet girl will be released on May 5 and is already available for order. Thanks to Eryn Kalavski we are welcoming Rachael Hollis at Land of Books for our next cute interview.
– Rachel, your next book Sweet Girl is set for release in May. What the readers will find inside?
– I think what I’m most nervous/excited about is that they won’t find a character that’s at all like Landon from Party Girl. Max is a much more damaged character and while she’s pursuing her childhood dream she’s much harder on herself than Landon was. Also, Sweet Girl is much more of a love story than the first book. Landon needed to grow on her own, what Max needs most is to allow someone to love her.

KATI HIEKKAPELTO: THE HUMMINGBIRD IS ABOUT RACISM, IMMIGRATION AND HONOR
Posted by Ognian Georgiev
Kati Hiekkapelto showed her talent in the last few years. She became a famous writer in her home country of Finland. Her novel The Hummingbird was released on English by Arcadia Books on December 23 2014. As you know Land of Books loves to present foreign language authors, so we are sure you will learn a lot more about Kati after you read the following lines.

– Kati, Give us some insight about The Hummingbird?
– Young girl is found dead from the remote jogging path with an Aztec amulet in her pocket, shot by a shotgun, straight to head. At the same time another young girl, Kurdish, calls 911 because she is afraid that her dad is going to kill her.
Anna Fekete starts a new job as a crime investigator after being several years in uniform. The beginning is not easy for her. The cases, she has investigate, are hard, she has to face racist and misogynist attitudes from her colleagues, especially her partner Esko Niemi is a difficult and nasty person. Anna´s past begins to haunt her. She suffers from severe sleeping problems and panic attacks. When more bodies with amulets in their pockets are found, it seems obvious that there is a serial killer out there.
For me The Hummingbird is a book about racism, immigration and honor related violence. For readers I wanted it to be an exciting crime story with strong characters where you can find, if you want, deeper layers and something more to think about than just “who is the murderer”.

RUSSELL BITTNER: MADAME BOVARY AND ANNA KARENINA WERE “THE MODELS” OF TROMPE-L’OEIL
Posted by Ognian Georgiev
Russell Bittner’s Trompe-l’oeil was described by the readers as “sexy and sophisticated read”, “a fascinating mixture of sensuality and romanticism”, “prose as its best”. The book gathered nice 4.5 average Amazon stars from 39 reviews. Our next guest’s prose publications have appeared over the years in journals/magazines. Lets welcome in Land of Books Mr. Russell Bittner.
– What is your book Trompe-l’oeil about?
– Trompe-l’oeil is, in a nutshell, a modern-day love story. What makes it modern? Its explicitness. That, and the fact that the usual roles are reversed. The principal female character is about a decade older than the principal male character.

S.L. ROSS: I DREAMED TO BE THE NEXT ANNE RICE
Posted by Ognian Georgiev
Land of Books published almost 200 interviews with famous and not so famous authors. Probably the most interesting question for our guests is “Who are you”. Some of the writers answer with one sentence. Others are more generous in their description. For the first time I was really touched by the answer of that question in our next interview with S.L. Ross. She is the author of Immortal Island series. Land of Books is the first stop of Making connections blog tour of her book Spellbound.
– Sabrina, What is your book Immortal Island: Spellbound about?
– My book Spellbound is the first book in the series of Immortal Island, and it is about Sarah Daniels a young woman who doesn’t know the secrets to her or her families past. She soon discovers these secrets when she runs into Chase Gavenport, her soul mate for the past few centuries. He is a vampire but she doesn’t know that right away.
