– Carolyn, what is your new book The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop about?
– Stella’s mama never should’ve put Stella on the church prayer list. With Stella’s twenty-seventh birthday coming up fast, Nancy desperately wants to see her daughter married and giving her grandbabies. Petitioning heaven seems like a surefire way to get it done. But in Cadillac, Texas, where the gossip’s hotter than the city’s famous jalapeño peppers, it isn’t long before all hell breaks loose.
Heather, the bossy leader of the church’s Prayer Angels, thinks a summer ball will get Stella and the town’s other single gals paired off. But nobody can tell redheaded spitfire Stella what to do—not her mama, not Heather, and not even the sexy beau Stella’s been seeing in secret. Together, Stella, her best friends Charlotte and Piper, and the loyal customers of the Yellow Rose Beauty Shop hatch a good old-fashioned scheme to sabotage the ball. But will it wreck Stella’s relationship with her mama forever? And what will the church folk think when Stella reveals the identity of her mystery man?

KRISTEN ASHLEY: I GET OBSESSED WITH THE BOOK I’M WRITING

Kristen Ashley released the third part of Chaos series – Ride Steady on June 30. The novel immediately rocked the charts and earned huge appreciation by the readers. Less than three weeks after the premiere the novel gathered 500 plus Amazon reviews with stunning average rating of 4.8 stars!
It’s a great pleasure to welcome as our next guest at Land of Books Kristen Ashley.

kristen_ashley

– Kristen, would you describe with your own words what the readers will find in your latest release Ride Steady?
Ride Steady is the next in my Chaos series after Own the Wind and Fire Inside. The series is based on a motorcycle club (MC) in Denver. The Chaos MC was introduced in my Dream Man series, their president, Kane “Tack” Allen having his story told in Motorcycle Man which means Chaos is a spin-off. This is mostly because I have trouble saying goodbye to my characters so I find ways to stay in touch with them.  Like spinning off books!
Ride Steady is the story of Carson “Joker” Steele and Carissa Teodoro. They went to High School together but were essentially (and regrettably) ships that passed in the night.
Joker did not grow up in a happy home (to say the least). His mother left him as an infant and his father physically and emotionally abused him. Carissa, on the other hand, had a loving family but one that was hit with a fair amount of tragedy.
The book gives us a peek at that…then takes us years in the future when Carissa’s life has taken a significant turn for the worse but Joker has found family in the Chaos MC. Carissa’s stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire and Joker stops to help. He recognizes her. There is something about him that tugs at her memory, but he’s much changed so she doesn’t recognize him.
That’s their new beginning…and away we go!

So both the hero and the heroine have to make a choice. Do they wallow in the turmoil of that loss for the rest of their lives and let that turmoil destroy their new found love and their future, or do they find a way to move forward together.

Land of Books is proud to present Mr. Grant McKenzie.

Don Denton/News staff Feb. 18, 2011 - Monday Magazine editor Grant McKenzie.

Grant McKenzie.

– Grant, what is your next book Speak The Dead about?
Speak The Dead is first and foremost the type of edge-of-your-seat thriller that my readers have come to expect from me, but with a slight supernatural twist. The story begins in the past when Sally Blue is only six years old. Startled awake by the sound of a gunshot, Sally runs to her parents’ bedroom for comfort. Instead, she finds her father mysteriously missing and her mother slumped against the headboard, her nightgown shredded by a shotgun blast. Climbing on the bed, Sally cradles her mother’s head, mindless of the blood and stench of death. Yet from somewhere deep within the lifeless body, Sally hears the voice of her mother warning her: “Run, Sally! Run!” Twenty-five years later, Sally has finally stopped running. She has found a modicum of peace as a mortician’s beautician; able to take solace from the voices of the dead that trailed her for years wherever she went. Yet a grisly murder reawakens her ‘gift’, forcing Sally to turn to Jersey Castle, homicide detective by day, punk rock drummer by night, and the last person Sally might expect to help her. But what Sally doesn’t know is that someone has been hunting for her all this time. They voices of the dead are all around her, and if she is unable to silence them the next voice to join the cacophony of death will be Sally’s own.
