Alan Dean Foster is an acknowledged master of novelizations. His experience in the tough task is dating back to the first Star Wars and Aliens movies. 69-year old veteran was called on duty once again to make movie to book transformation of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. And he did splendid job!

It’s a great honor to welcome at Land of Books Alan Dean Foster, who shared his experience in the world of Star Wars and many more interesting inside info about his works.

alan_foster

– Alan, the book adaptation of Stat Wars: The Force Awakens received a lot of praise? The big question is would the fans of the saga get more answers compared to the movie?
– Absolutely. I was able to fill in some scenes that were cut from the final edit. Also I was able to add new dialogue, and get into the thoughts of the characters. That is what a good novelization should do.

The Spanish bestselling author Fernando Gamboa is ready to conquer the English language literary market with his book Captain Riley. Our next guest is not a typical writer. fernando

– Fernando, tell us about your new book Captain Riley?

Captain Riley is an Adventure (yes, with a capital A). A book that will make you laugh, thrill you, make you fall in love, or make you feel like you’re standing up on a ship deck facing a storm on the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a novel to lose yourself in and let your imagination take you to places you’ve never been before. A great adventure that you won’t want to leave. It was the best selling novel on Amazon Spain in 2015.

mark

– Mark, what is your book Fields of Wrath about?
– A number of years ago, I read that in the Los Angeles undocumented immigrant community, a number of people had begun to take their problems to the church rather than the police. Fields of Wrath is about a young priest named Luis Chavez, only six months past ordination, who has a crime involving a missing Oaxacan girl fall into his lap. Deciding that God put it in front of him as a test, he goes about trying to get to solve the case.

AURÉLIE VALOGNES: I HAVE NEVER IMAGINED THE SUCCESS OF OUT OF SORTS

aurelie

Aurélie, what is your book Out of Sorts about?
– First of all, I would like to thank you Ognian for your invitation in your blog! A real honor for me to be one of your guests.
I love to read books which are all about beautiful unexpected encounters, such as we would like to see happen a bit more in our daily life. This is what I tried to convey in Out of sorts, putting lights on a neighborhood (all protagonists live in the same building) in which extraordinary friendships between three ordinary life people would occur. Ferdinand, the protagonist, cantankerous old man, represents the man we could all become, alone and bitter, if we are not making today the needed efforts to demonstrate better our love to the people around us. Beatrice, 93, his door neighbor, is his complete opposite. She enjoys everyday as the last one and can’t help herself from learning new things and meeting new people every day. These two neighbors would never have a chance to talk to each other unless an expected encounter would revolutionize their life. New neighbor, Juliette, 10, fresh, positive and cheeky, literally invites herself at Ferdinand’s and establishes new relationships between the three of them, making the old man to open up not only his door but his heart too. Obviously, this generational shock brings lots of humoristic incongruous situations.
